Barbara Diaz, Esquire is a senior associate at Orshan, Spann & Fernandez-Mesa. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Diaz was an Assistant City Attorney with the City of Miami in the Labor and Employment Division. While there, Ms. Diaz handled hearings before the City’s Civil Service Board, arbitrations involving employment-related matters, negotiations with collective bargaining units, and litigation in both state and federal court related to Employment Law.
The bulk of Ms. Diaz’ legal experience, however, came from her public service work at the Department of Children and Families, where she was a former Division Chief and Supervising Attorney for over six years. Ms. Diaz accumulated extensive trial, and litigation experience in dependency matters before the circuit courts, including, but not limited to Unified Family Court. Over the course of her tenure at the Department, Ms. Diaz attended a multitude of trainings centered around children’s welfare and developed a wealth of knowledge and understanding of key issues related to children and custody, which serve a great benefit when in handling family law matters
Ms. Diaz was admitted into the Florida Bar in 2007. She is a member of the Family Law section of the Florida Bar, and the First Family Law American Inn of Court. Ms. Diaz has been involved in numerous civic organizations as well as within her community. Ms. Diaz was born and raised in Chicago, but has established her home in Miami, where she resides with her husband, Harvey and their two children, Dylan and Olivia.
